Multilingual Learners Overview

The Laraway CCSD 70C Multilingual Program provides language support for students who qualify for multilingual services. Our program is designed to help students develop English language proficiency while continuing to succeed in grade-level learning.

After students qualify for multilingual services, they are placed in the program that best meets their language needs and follows Illinois State Board of Education requirements.

Laraway CCSD 70C offers two program models:

Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE)

A Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) program is provided when 20 or more multilingual students in a school share the same home language, as required by Illinois law. Students receive English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction along with instruction and support in both English and their home language.

Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI)

A Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI) is provided when fewer than 20 students in a school share the same home language. Students receive English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction and, when needed, additional support in their home language.
